What is Somali Price Index (SPI)?
SPI is a public market price platform for Somalia. It helps you search items, compare vendor prices, find discounts, calculate total costs, and contact sellers across Somali markets — all in one place.
How do I search for an item?
Use the search bar on the homepage or go to the Prices page. Type the item name in English or Somali (for example 'rice' or 'bariis'). You'll see current vendor prices, locations, and contact information.
Do I need an account to browse prices?
No. You can search items, view prices, compare vendors, and use the calculator without logging in. You only need an account if you're a vendor who wants to submit prices or manage your business.
How do I compare prices between vendors?
Search for an item on the Prices page and you'll see all vendor prices listed. Use the Compare page for a side-by-side comparison of the same item across different vendors and locations.
What areas of Somalia does SPI cover?
SPI covers major markets and districts across Somalia, including Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Kismayo and Baidoa. The Districts page lists every administrative district and shows exactly where verified prices are being collected today.
Prices and vendors
How do I contact a vendor?
Each vendor listing includes phone and WhatsApp buttons. Click 'Call' to dial their number directly, or 'WhatsApp' to open a chat. You can contact vendors without creating an account.
Are the prices accurate and up to date?
Prices are submitted by vendors and reviewed by the SPI team before publication, and every listing shows the date it was verified. Prices change, so confirm with the vendor before making a purchase.
How can I find discounts and special offers?
Go to the Discounts page from the main navigation. You'll see current vendor offers with original prices, discount prices, and savings percentages, filterable by category and verified vendors.
How do I become a verified vendor?
Start by submitting prices and creating a vendor profile. The team reviews vendor activity, and trusted vendors receive verified status, which increases buyer confidence and visibility.
Submitting data
How do I submit a price as a vendor?
Sign in, then go to Vendor tools › Submit price. Choose the product, enter your price, market and date, and attach evidence where you have it. Submissions are reviewed before appearing on the site.
How do I add an item that isn't in the system?
Go to Vendor tools › Add new item. Provide the item name in English and Somali, the category, the unit, and your initial price. The team reviews the request and adds it to the catalogue if approved.
How do I create a discount offer?
Go to Vendor tools › Discounts. Select an item, set the original and discount price, and choose how long the offer runs. Discounts are reviewed before being published.
How does the price calculator work?
On the Calculator page, search for items, select vendor prices, enter quantities and add them to your basket. The calculator totals the estimated cost. Your basket is saved in your browser, so no login is needed — but it stays on that device and browser only.
